The People We Forget to Thank

Do you know...
This may be one of the hardest posts I've ever written.
Not because it's easy to admit, but because it comes from a place deep within my own heart.
Lately, I've been reflecting on what it means to love people... really love them.
To give without keeping score.
To show up day after day.
To quietly carry burdens that no one else ever sees.
My perspective comes from being a mom because that's the life I've lived. But I know this story belongs to so many others too—fathers who work tirelessly, spouses who carry the weight of a family, grandparents who step in without hesitation, siblings who become protectors, and friends who somehow always know exactly when you need them.
They are the quiet caregivers.
The silent therapists.
The steady hands that hold everyone together while asking for very little in return.
The day my children came into this world, something inside me changed forever.
Like so many parents, I willingly put someone else's needs before my own. I sacrificed sleep, time, energy, dreams, and sometimes even parts of my own identity. Not because I had to... but because that's what love does.
You become the planner.
The encourager.
The worrier.
The peacemaker.
The one who remembers every birthday, every appointment, every little detail that makes someone else feel loved.
And somewhere in all of that...
Life shifts.
The quiet sacrifices become expected.
The little things become invisible.
The person who has spent years making sure everyone else feels seen slowly begins to wonder if anyone truly sees them.
Maybe that's why so many people reach a season in life where they stop and quietly ask themselves...
"Who am I now?"
After spending years helping everyone else become who they were meant to be, it's easy to forget who you are.
But maybe this next chapter isn't about becoming someone new.
Maybe it's about finding the person you lovingly set aside while you were busy building a life for everyone else.
What if we changed the way we saw one another?
What if we noticed the people quietly carrying the emotional weight of our families?
What if we thanked the people who have always been there before life gave us a reason to?
The truth is, we rarely see everything someone has done for us until we stop long enough to look.
So when you finish reading this...
Pick up the phone.
Call your mom.
Call your dad.
Call your spouse.
Call your grandparent.
Call your sibling.
Call the friend who has always answered when life fell apart.
Call the person who has quietly loved you, believed in you, and carried you through seasons you couldn't have survived alone.
Tell them, "Thank you."
Tell them, "I see you."
Tell them what they've meant to your life.
Don't wait for a birthday.
Don't wait for a holiday.
This post comes from a very personal place, and one day I'll share the story behind it.
But today isn't about my story.
Today is about reminding all of us that the people who quietly carry us through life deserve to know they mattered while they're still here to hear it.
Life is fragile.
Love is a gift.
Gratitude should never be left unsaid.
